Cindy Royal is a doctoral candidate in Journalism studying the effects of the Internet on communication and culture. Her dissertation is on how gendered spaces frame women's relationship with the Internet. She comes to UT after a career in Marketing at Compaq Computer in Houston. She has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Richmond in Virginia and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Additional detail regarding her education and experience can be found on her online resume. This is her last semester at UT. In the Fall 2005, she will start as Assistant Professor in the School of Mass Communications at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

This is her tenth semester working with the J331 Web Publishing course, but the first time she has taught the Information Technology and Social Life Course.

Cindy hosts her own concert review Web site, On That Note, and enjoys working on other Web design projects.

 

Rubén Martínez, Teaching Assistant

Rubén Martínez received his Bachelor's degree from the University of
California at Davis and is now working on a dissertation on the history of
science. He is focusing on the growth of the American physics community
in the twentieth century and its eventual eclipse by geneticists. His
other academic interests include the Scientific Revolution, the philosophy
of science, and race and ethnicity.

While he generally teaches American history or the history of science,
this is his second time as TA for STS 319.

On the side, Rubén is also interested in photography, cooking, wine, the
open source movement, and is the computer manager at his co-op.
